It’s about time. According to the the various newspapers covering the SEC, the league is seriously thinking about creating an SEC network.
And let me just say that if the Big Ten and Mountain West conferences have networks, why not the greatest conference in the NCAA. I’m just saying.
The good news is that the contracts for big time football and basketball with CBS and ESPN will likely stay in tact. The somewhat bad news is that RayCom will be the main producer and distributor of the network if the league decides to create one. Not good.
But what is good is that games that aren’t televised locally or nationally could still be seen. And non-revenue sports–a place the SEC still dominates–could finally get needed attention. Let me put it this way for those of you noticing only basketball and football, the SEC is just as good in baseball, tennis (men’s and women’s), track and field, gymnastics, softball and pretty much any other sport. Yeah, it’s like that.
The earliest launch for such a channel would be Fall 2009. And trust me, programing would never get boring. There also is an option for not creating a channel and renewing the current system. WC doesn’t endorse that option.
