Obviously, UK has some work to do.
Stratch that. A lot of work to do. And you know where it starts? That offensive line.
Did you see Alabama’s line? Sure, Glen Coffee is good, but he started with a five yard head start on the UK defense. John Parker Wilson was sacked, sure, but he wasn’t pressured a lot. UK’s offensive line? No push off the ball, always allowed pressure.
At some point, you stop saying the defense is bailing out the offense and you say that the offense is limiting UK’s potential. 10 points on the road, even though you are getting run all over? That’s amazing. Seven points off a stupid mistake? Not good.
Less rushing yards than Alabama’s backup, Mark Ingram? Not good. Wide receivers who smack down passes like a spike in volleyball (looking at you DeMoreo Ford), not working.
Rich Brooks and Co. know that the offense is struggling. The problem starts on the o-line, yet, without Christian Johnson, the Cats lost a little something this year. Until they find it, there’s no one game on the schedule that is an “easy win”.
Now, I know it says I hate Alabama, but I really don’t. The campus was beautiful and the crowd knows how to create a tough atmosphere. I hope the Cat fans who went took some notes. Coffee and Ingram are for real, John Parker Wilson didn’t impress. But the pregame introductions and everything were amazing. The tailgating in the quad? Amazing.
But UK has a week to rebound. South Carolina isn’t playing around anymore. Maybe UK’s offensive line shouldn’t either.
