Randy Sanders, Offensive Coordinator?

That’s basically what happened in theory yesterday, when UK announced that Sanders title will be changed to offensive coordinator and Joker Phillips will be named head coach of the offense.

Sounds silly. But I like it.

Because all it’s doing is showing us what the future will hold. It’s another step before Rich Brooks steps down after an amazing legacy with the Cats. Phillips will become head coach and Sanders will once again be a true offensive coordinator in the SEC once that happens.

Phillips is still in charge of the offensive gameplan. Sanders is still recruiting coordinator and quarterbacks coach. In reality, nothing has changed. In theory, it has. And both ways are perfect.

The longer UK holds onto Sanders, the better. Once a fall boy for Phil Fulmer after seven years as offensive coordinator with the Vols, Sanders deserves the chance to show that his firing there was unfair. He can only do that if he gets another true shot as offensive coordinator. I really doubt he waits long now. Possibly only a year.

Smart move by Brooks, and another great decision to help UK rise up the ranks. We’ve always been a big fan of Sanders. This move should be welcomed with open arms by all.
