“They” would be the other teams in contention for the SEC East title. South Carolina lost to Mississippi State last night. That was probably to be expected. Tennessee lost to Ole Miss last night. That was not to be expected. Now there’s a four-way tie. I think Tennessee has the advantage because they’ve lost one game against division competition and everybody else has lost multiple times. None of these teams are good enough to grab a stranglehold on its division like LSU has done in the West. When all four teams are playing to their potential, Kentucky is the best.
In order for Kentucky to be the best, Billy Gillispie needs to figure out that what he’s doing isn’t working, namely starting the wrong guys, especially in the second half. That was the only reason why they lost at Vanderbilt. Really, the only reason. Blaming officials is for cowards and losers, and only would have been applicable had it been a 1-2 possession game. Bad officiating is why the game was tied at halftime, but not why Vandy was +13 in the second half. Instead of coming out with Liggins or Galloway, both of whom had fine first halves, he went with Harris and Porter, neither of whom were playing particularly well, especially Porter. By the time the subs were made, it was a five-point game, and there was no turning back. There’s nothing wrong with starting guys in the second half when they play well in the first half. I know foul trouble wasn’t a reason because Darius Miller started the second half instead of Josh Harrellson, and Darius had three fouls. It’s common sense, and on a team as limited and flawed as this team is without Patrick Patterson, it needs to happen.
I don’t have much to say about the Tennessee game because I’m at a crossroads. I’ll explain the situation, depending on the outcome of the Tennessee game. Let’s just say my confidence in this staff is waning, at least from an X’s and O’s point of view. I have no problems with recruiting.
