Tailgating 101: MTSU Edition

GAMEDAY MUST-HAVES (things to bring every week)

1. Cornhole Boards: A tailgate isn’t a party without a set of cornhole boards to pass the time with. If you don’t have any yet, get some. Your friends will never forgive you if you don’t have a set for the party.

2. Beverage of choice: Usually an ice cold (insert your favorite canned or bottled drink here) will do but sometimes it’s nice to mix things up. Don’t forget the ice and cooler.

3. Grill: Nothing is worse than having a cooler full of food and nothing to cook it on. This may be the most important item on the list but something had to #3 on the list. (Bring the utensils too, your hands will get burnt if you don’t.)

4. Radio: a good tailgate will have some rockin music to listen too until the countdown to kickoff starts and then its all UK football talk blaring through the speakers.

5. Table and Chairs: Gotta have somewhere to put the food and for everybody to sit and chill while waiting for gametime. Collapsible chairs are the best because they fit in the truck much easier as well as a folding table. Just some suggestions.

THIS WEEK’S GOTTA HAVES AND DO’S: MIDDLE TENNESSEE STATE

1. Television: There are plenty of games on the tube this week so bring a tv to keep up with all of them while you’re waiting for the game. For those who like to tailgate after the game, Ohio St and USC play on prime time television Saturday night so there will be plenty of game left to watch after the Cats win.
2. This week’s menu: Go to your local corner store, get the butcher to cut you some boneless pork chops up and marinate them Friday night. Put them on the grill Saturday and impress your friends with a tasty sandwich. Add some chips and dip with some kinda sugary dessert and you’re guaranteed to be full by gametime.

3. Take the rain gear this weekend as the forecast currently has a chance of rain for the area coming from the remnants of Hurricane Ike. Not sure how a storm that currently sits in the Gulf of Mexico could affect our weather that quickly but the one time you doubt a weatherman, they will burn you and get one right.

4. CAT WALK: The Cat Walk will be held at 4:45 at the northeast corner of Commonwealth Stadium. Come out and support the Cats as they try to go 3-0 for the second straight season. For those who booed last week, this is the perfect opportunity for you to redeem yourself and let the players know you’re behind them.
TIP OF THE WEEK: When you load up the grill, make sure everything you need including the propane or charcoal , lighter fluid, and all neccessary hoses are in the truck. Some of the folks tailgating around us forgot their hose connector last week and almost had some cold meat for dinner. Good thing we are nice.

That’s it for this week! Until next time, remember, NO BOOING or you’ll have Coach Brooks to answer to!!

Tailgating 101: Norfolk State Edition

After the big win last Sunday, the Cats get back into action on Saturday evening as they host Norfolk State at 6:00 pm in Commonwealth Stadium. Before you head out the door on Saturday, check here to make you’ve got everything you need for a great tailgting time.

THIS WEEK’S GOTTA HAVES AND DO’S: NORFOLK STATE

1. I’m thinking some nice pork chops on the grill would be a great main course for the party this week. We’re going to have plenty of time before the game so make sure you get them done all the way through. Marinating them the night before would be a nice added touch.

2. Sunscreen! It’s going ot be another scorcher this week and after watching people walk out of PJCS last week, it looks like sunscreen will definitely be in high demand this week. There were several burnt but happy Cat fans exiting the stadium afterwards on Sunday. Don’t repeat it again this week.

3. Set the TIVO! The game is being offered on a pay-per-view basis in the state of Kentucky but will be broadcast on the BBSN later that night on a delayed schedule. Set your recorder so you can go back and watch those big plays again and again. I know I’ve done plenty of that this week. (Run Myron, Run!!!)

4. It’s Military Appreciation Day this week so be sure to get to the stadium early and stay until the end because it’s really cool to watch the soldiers file in and out of the stadium and listen to them chant during the game. They march in and march out of the stadium before and after and is always fun to watch. Help Support Our Troops!!!

5. The Cat Walk will once again be happening before every game this year. The players walk into the stadium through gate 1 approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes before every home game. This week it will happen at 3:45. When you hear the stadium siren hurry over to the Cat Walk and welcome the Cats to the stadium.
Have fun, be safe, and remember: Louisville only scored 2 points against us!! GO CATS!!!
