I have never, ever seen a more UNDEMOCRATIC institution than the NCAA - until the KHSAA just decided to become little brother to the big double-a. In case you didn’t know, the NCAA technically is a self-governing body and generally has kept the real U.S. government at a 10-foot wingspan length.
And now, the KHSAA is trying to do the same. Of course, if it really wanted, the U.S. government could really screw with the NCAA (and it should). Likewise, the Kentucky legislature really has control over the high school athletic association here in Kentucky. But is the legislature really going to do anything when they have budget issues, tutition issues, etc.?
In case you didn’t read it, the Herald-Leader publicly shanked (that would be pulling the pants down, for those unfamailiar) the KHSAA.
Does KHSAA deserve all this heat, just because Dakota Euton and Chad Jackson were ruled ineligible at Scott County H.S. this year? Yes. And not just for that reason, but it doesn’t help when you mess with a UK recruit and another kid UK has their eye on. The KHSAA made a huge mistake in the pubic eye by initially saying Jackson was eligible and then going “ooops” a day later.
But I played high school athletics growing up here in the state. I had tons of friends play too… and I can honest to goodness tell you that more bullshit happens at the KHSAA than at your local cow farm. I can only write about it now because they happened to mess up with a UK recruit. Sorry for your problem Dakota, but thanks for the topic.
You see, I played football at Butler High School for four years. I watched kids transfer from schools like Fairdale into our school… and they immediately played football, no questions asked. They transferred from one city school to another, with no questions or problem. Heck, one even transferred back to Fairdale and played football the next year for them. That kid never moved from his house in Fairdale; he moved schools to play football.
We even had one kid transfer from St. X. He sat out a little bit before transferring, but we all knew that was because he came from St. X, a power player in the KHSAA. Don’t believe me? They explain why we never got that public vs. private school debate settled. Uh huh.
Basketball was no different. Kids would play basketball at Butler, disagree with the coach or fail out… and next season would play down the road at rival PRP, starting every game. Explain that to me, but why Euton and Jackson are sitting?
You see, like the NCAA, the KHSAA is political. It believes they are bigger than they should be. They run everything, with little checks and balances against themselves. Well, I say enough. It’s a slow news week, work’s boring, and here’s a chance to fight for a cause.
Call state AG Jack Conway, call your local state congresspeople, call your local House rep, call Mitch McConnell. Write the KHSAA. Go to their building. For years, this state has suffered under the rule of a bunch of shit-eating monkeys. Our high school sports have suffered, our recruits are now suffering. Tell everyone you know that you want the head of the KHSAA to resign. Encourage schools in your district to pull out of the organization. Cripple it.
There is no reason the KHSAA should be God when it comes to high school sports in Kentucky. It’s time to knock everyone down a few 100 notches.
