Bassett Case Considered "Ludicrous" And Thrown Out

The man who put UK Football in the cellar and ended the Hal Mumme era in Lexington took another hard hit when he lost yet another appeal in his case against the University of Kentucky that dates back to 2004. Bassett was at the center of the investigation put forth by the NCAA into Kentucky Football that eventually put the Cats on probation and brought pain and suffering to so many fans. Bassett sued the university and the NCAA for $50 million sighting fraud and civil conspiracy. If you’ll remember, he took blame for committing recruiting violations during the Mumme era. Bassett claimed in the lawsuit that he was under the belief that if he took blame, he would not be investigated further and he could find a job at another school. Yesterday, in probably the final appeal in a long, long line of appeals, the judge called the lawsuit “ludicrous” and dismissed the case.

Bassett’s only hope remaining is to take it to the U.S. Supreme Court and let them hear the case. I doubt that happens. If it did I think the transcripts would go something like this:

SC: So let us get this straight, we’re here because you can’t find a job Mr. Bassett and you think Kentucky should give you money for firing you. Why do you feel you need us to look at this case?
CB: Well, your honor, I just don’t see why nobody will hire me. I did a good job at UK. I lied, cheated, ate everything they fed me and then they made me take the blame and fired me. Now no one will hire me and I’m hungry. I know them people there in Lexington are blackballing me. I just know it and I need you to help me stop them.

SC: Mr. Bassett, I don’t think anything anyone said is stopping people from hiring you. It’s probably the fact that you lied and cheated. The fact that you’re asking for $50 million is crrrraaaaazzzzyy! In our opinion, you should be repaying that university for all the pain and problems you’ve caused them. We suggest you give Ol Hal a call out in New Mexico and see if he needs someone to cut the grass on the field or something. Now leave this courtroom, we’ve got baseball players to investigate.

I think we’ve finally heard the last from the large mound of lies known as Claude Bassett.
