New, Improved Stadiums?

That’s what Mitch Barnhart wants. New stadiums, improved stadiums.

And you wouldn’t have to pay a dime, unless you already donate to the K-Fund. That’s right, Barnhart says that no taxpayer money will be used and none of the University’s money either. It’s a never been done before type situation, with a new basketball arena, new baseball stadium and upgrades to Commonwealth Stadium all being funded privately.

Which means K-Fund donates are about to go through the roof! Pony up old people, the price of your favorite seats at Rupp are about to make you stand up and holler. Bout time you did that at games.

But hey now, we can’t let Louisville have the only new arena in town. Nope, five years after they build theirs, we’ll outshine them. A new Rupp arena. One with top-level bleachers that induce chronic backache and make you basically watch TVs to see the action. Maybe more room for a student section? We can only hope.

And improves to Commomwealth? Sure. I’m down with more club and box seats. New scoreboards. Maybe it’ll move some people and let loud, cheering students or fans in down low. Just saying.

Baseball too! Good to see John Cohen’s vision now dying with his departure. UK has shown the ability to crowd the current Cliff Hagan stadium, especially on big games. Now that Cliff Hagan is bad…. but, newer, nicer is always better for recruits. And putting it by the softball and soccer fields is just grand! Everything there in one spot!

So let’s build the stadiums, expand the existing. Throw money at all these nice things. I don’t care. Because I’m never going to and never have donated to the K-Fund. But those of you who do, well…. thanks for the new digs!
